Im Working On It

Yeah, yeah. I know, it's been a while... Well, Im working on a minor overhaul on the blog before I start posting again. It may take a while as a lot of changes are happening in my life at the moment but I'll try my best, I'm also thinking of adding a new poster just so I can have some help getting things out on time. Until then, though...

I Love Guillermo Del Toro

So this past weekend I got to see Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. I thought the first Hellboy was okay.. not great, not even really good, just okay. I hear Guillermo didn't get a lot of creative freedom with the first one but after Pan's Labyrinth they let him have it all for HB2. It shows... Guillermo is a genius when it comes to he realm of the fantastical. His creature designs are both frightening and beautiful and the vast wolds he creates are nothing short of breathtaking. Even the troll market was beautiful in it's own way. The person I was with said it reminded her of Harry Potter. My reply; 'good'. I'm truly excited to see what he does with The Hobbit. I know I'm forgetting something.... oh yeah! The plot was MUCH better than the first movie's and the way everyone interacted with each other felt a lot more smooth and natural. I also have to mention how much I adore Doug Jones. He's such a talented man and I find it funny when people ask me who he is. "You remember the fawn and the pale man from Pan's Labyrinth.. OH! and the Silver Surfer... that's him!" *insert big smile at the look of awe on our hypothetical person* So yeah, Hellboy 2 = Good. I think I may have enjoyed it better than Iron Man but it may be that they are very different movies... you decide.

I'll review wanted on Thursday just so I have something to post then. Sorry this one was late.. my bad. Had to work. -Dustyn

Im Sorry Guys

It's been a really crazy week. Work transferred me (sucks), my roommate moved out with no warning nor reason (sucks more) so I've been left with an apartment all to myself that there's no way in hell I can pay for and I have to find a roommate in like.. 5 days. NOT GOOD.

On the flip side I went clubbing Wednesday (to get my mind off things.. it worked for a little while) and got to go to the drive-in on Friday for your monday review (a two-fer! Hellboy 2 and Wanted) so you can expect those... I dunno what I'm doing for the week but I guarentee Monday and Friday posts.Let's hope for The Mummy review next week.. and wish me luck in the whole apartment situation.

Peace, Love, and Magazines. -Dustyn

It's One Less Share

It's Monday and time for my review of The Dark Knight and the only fair way to do this is to break the movie down into two parts: Performances and Plot.

We'll start with the plot. Batman (Bruce Wayne) teams up with Harvy Dent and the soon to be Comissioner Gordon to bring the last major crime syndicate in Gotham down. Everything seems to be going right until the arrival of a new kind of lawbreaker shows up; The Joker. The atmosphere (to me) is really different than that of the first film. Some of the action seems a little more far fetched but can be justified in some form or another. My biggest gripe is about the lack of a batcave and Wayne Manor. Which, I feel, was part of the change in atmosphere. I understand the manor was blown up in the last film but the batcave wasn't and this new, temporary batcave was too high-tech for my liking. The story is fairly strong but there were places where I had tilt my head and go "..hmm." It's a long movie but it holds your interest enough to not feel so. There was a really epic twist in one of the action sequences that was truly amazing. I apologize for being vague but I really don't want to spoil anything but you will know what I'm talking about when you see it, if you haven't already.

Now onto what EVERYONE is talking about, and rightfully so; the performances. Lets go ahead and get this out of the way: Christian Bale as Batman = meh... I really enjoyed him in the first film but this time around i wasn't feeling the love so much. Gary Oldman is, of course, genious in everything he does and Gordon is no different. His character goes from nerd fan service in Begins to beloved character of his own in Dark Knight. The character of Rachel to me is truly unecessary but as she is here I must mention her... I love Maggie Gyllenhaal and I'm not the biggest fan of Katie Holms. And I don't think Katie made a better Rachel, but in the first movie, the character herself was more developed and pronounced. In TDK she's almost forgotten... Onward! Aaron Eckhart is amazing as Harvy Dent/Two-Face and I fear that his performance will be underappreciated because of Heath Ledger's. Not that i think Ledger doesn't deserve all the glory, as this is HIS movie but Eckhart put his all into this and i feel bad that he won't get the prise he deserves.

Every performance in this movie is great, but the hot topic lately has been Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. If I had to chose one word to describe it, I would shoot the person making the request because there is no one word. Perfection is an understatement. The Joker is a terrifying person(?).He's genuinely funny but when you realize what he just made you laugh at, it makes you quiver. Every time you see or hear The Joker all of your attention is on him.. trying to figure out what he's thinking or what he'll do next. He's always 4 steps ahead but it's not quite clear whether he planned it that way or not. You forget this is a character in a movie and that this is a person playing a part because Heath WAS The Joker. He took this character to a whole new level of psychoticly sane. You hang on every word out of his mouth...

I cannot say enough good about the perfomances in this movie so I'll end here and see you all tomorrow.

P.S. Heath, if you're reading my blog.. We will so miss you. Also, if there are any typos, my bad, I'm kind of drugged up at the moment and don't want to edit....

Now let's just get this out of the way.. I don't like rap. Nor do I like really old things. But put them together and you get this.

The sync on this is AMAZING. I find myself craving this video like a drug every month or so. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

AIR Is Good.. Damn That Lying Spongebob!

So today's nerdy post is about Adobe AIR® (I put the trademark in case they wasnt to close my blog like they did FreshAIRApps) but basically it is a cross-platform runtime that lets you run web applications on your desktop.. think widgets, only epic.I am currently in love with it. Why? I'll tell you why! I now have hulu, Pandora, Twitter, and the best RSS aggrigattor in my humble opinion running on my desktop.. whenever I want it to.. without a browser!

Look!

Click it for a bigger view, but thats me using twhirl (Twutter app), Snackr (the RSS agrigator), and Pandora. No, I dont have a task bar because I use rocketdock.. which I also love.

So I really suggest you try AIR, and go to FreshAIRApps (soon to be refreshingapps.com) from the link above and check out the showcase. Also there are development tools for the real techie types.
